Pandas food - Bamboo

Giant pandas are a type of bear, and they still retain a meat eater's digestive system, with a simple stomach and a short small intestine. They don't have a four-chambered stomach like a cow to digest plants efficiently, and a pure bamboo diet contains hardly any protein, Bamboo contains very little nutritional value so pandas must eat 12-38kg every day to meet their energy needs. Pandas' bodies have adapted to their herbivorous diet by evolving stronger jaw structures to crush and chew bamboo and a thumb-like paw structure for grasping and ripping apart bamboo. But the panda digestive system has not yet adapted. Their resulting stomach problems have possible repercussions. But they do branch out, with about 1% of their diet comprising other plants and even meat. While they are almost entirely vegetarian, pandas will sometimes hunt for pikas and other small rodents.
